I keep going back and forth on this. Ebiere was cruel, yes, but the way Odafe planned everything... does the end justify the means? What do you all think?
The physical scar on Odafe's face mirrors the emotional scars from his childhood. Has anyone else noticed how the author uses mirrors throughout the book?
Fimi loves Odafe deeply but fails to protect him from Ebiere. Is his love enough when his actions fall short? I found his character heartbreaking.
When Odafe exposes Ebiere at the harvest thanksgiving, I had to put the book down. The tension was unbearable. Was that the climax for you too?
Shakespeare reference from The Merchant of Venice. But does Odafe get justice or merely revenge? There is a difference, and the book blurs it beautifully.
Odafe wins but feels empty. That final line about the cost to his soul broke me. Is victory worth losing your humanity?
